Ex-radio DJ arrested for child porn

A Manitowoc man who worked for WOMT (1240 AM) radio as recently as Wednesday, Nov. 18, has been arrested for possession of child pornography.

Phillip W. Beckman, 66, was arrested Thursday, Nov. 19, according to the Manitowoc Police Department. The department said the investigation is ongoing and no further details could be provided. Beckman is in custody in Manitowoc County Jail. He has not yet been charged.

Mark Seehafer, president and general manager of Seehafer Broadcasting, the company that owns WOMT, said Beckman "no longer works" at the station. Seehafer and his attorneys would not provide additional details about Beckman's employment, including when he started at the station and when his employment ended.

According to Mark Heller, of Metro North Communications, who sold WEMP-FM to Seehafer Broadcasting, Beckman was an on-air personality for WOMT, covering the 9 a.m. to noon shift, while also serving as an engineer.

Beckman was convicted of possession of child pornography in 1989 in Florida, according to news reports.
